Children and cats’ companionship is not only possible but also preferable. A cat can play a role of an aid for a child who has already learnt to walk. The child can take care of the pet, feeding it, brushing and generally looking after. This is way children learn to understand animals. Who can take care of a pet?
If your children want to have a cat home and you have a plan to purchase this animal to please them do not do it if you dislike cats. A cat can be a cause of different diseases and it might be dangerous for children who are in a contact with animals and do not take simple precautions. Many children still have a habit to take different objects and fingers into the mouth. One of the most dangerous diseases is toxoplasmosis. Thus it is very important to keep an eye at them and do not allow the children and the pet to access each other meals. Do not allow the cat to lick your baby’s face. The child must wash his or her hands after playing with the cat and the child must not place the hands into his or her mouth while playing. Be careful outside and do not allow your baby to play in the sand where cats possibly can use it as a toilet.
Teach your children to respect and treat kindly any creature and when its time to go into the world they will become much kinder and more humane.

What can I feed my cat/kitten besides store-bought food?
Due to personal reasons I do not want to feed my cat processed food from the stores. I’ve heard of cat’s getting addicted to Fancy Feast in particular. What are other ways I can go about feeding my new kitten healthy foods that will keep it nourished, besides these store-bought foods?
fancy feast makes some perfectly acceptable foods. Some are full of additives and fillers that make it attractive to cats, but so do all brands of cat food – if their food wasn’t attractive to cats, it wouldn’t be eaten and they would go out of business.
if you are looking for optimal health you want to go raw. there are several manufactures out there that make a pretty decent product, but you can make it yourself pretty easily. I did it for several years until I added too many cats to my house and it would take whole afternoons to make enough food for a month. I used the recipe at http://www.catinfo.org a website run by a vet who actually studies feline nutrition. Most vets do not, and a lot of “experts” in the field of nutrition are obviously aren’t as they say corn and wheat are perfectly acceptable to “obligate carnivores” (which are animals that are designed to ONLY eat meat) Cats do not have the digestive enzymes to properly deal with plant material, and cats that are fed an excessively high plant based diet often have very large and excessively smelly stools. Cats fed a meat based diet have rather small orderless stools. My own crew went from dry food and a very foul smelling litter box, to canned and a much less foul smelling box, to raw and a litter box with almost no odor.
You do not want to start feeding your cats boiled liver or any other piecemeal type of diet with out doing the research. Liver is very high in vitamin A and low in taurine and other amino acids and is not a properly balanced diet. Liver is an important PART of a diet, it should not be the whole thing.
